Terms & engineering disclaimer
designR is a design aid for competent electrical designers. It does not replace the judgement of a competent person, and its outputs are not certification.
What the calculations are
Cable sizing, voltage drop, earth fault loop and adiabatic checks are implemented from published methodology in BS 7671 and its appendices. Tabulated data is limited to the conductor types, installation methods and sizes shown in the interface. The text of BS 7671 is copyright and is not reproduced in the app; only clause references are shown.
Results are only as good as the inputs. Ambient temperature, grouping, thermal insulation, supply characteristics and Ze/PFC values must be confirmed for the actual installation.
Protective device data and discrimination
Time-current characteristics shown in designR are indicative envelopes generated from standard tripping bands (for example BS EN 60898-1, BS EN 60947-2, BS 88-2) and from the settings you enter. They are not manufacturer-published curves.
Selectivity results carry an evidence class. Only results marked manufacturer are derived from a manufacturer selectivity record. Results marked standards, generic or unverified are designR assessments and must be confirmed against manufacturer selectivity tables before being relied upon.
Certificates and notification data
Certificate views are model forms populated from your design data for review and record purposes. They are not a scheme certificate. Statutory certification and any competent-person scheme notification must be issued by the registered contractor through their registration body. DNO and Part P figures are indicative and must be confirmed with the distributor or building control.
No affiliation or endorsement
designR is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by any standards body, certification scheme, distribution network operator or equipment manufacturer. Product and company names referred to in projects are the trade marks of their respective owners and are used only to describe equipment you have specified.
Responsibility and liability
Responsibility for the design, its verification and its issue remains with the designer and the duty holder. designR is provided on an as-is basis without any warranty that outputs are complete, current or fit for a particular installation. To the extent permitted by law we exclude liability for losses arising from reliance on outputs that have not been independently checked by a competent person. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Engineer-entered manufacturer data and saved profiles
designR allows an engineer to record a selectivity limit taken from a manufacturer's own coordination table, together with the publication, revision and page reference it came from. These figures are entered by the user. designR does not transcribe, check, validate or endorse them, holds no licence to republish manufacturer data, and makes no representation that a recorded value is current or correct for the devices actually installed. Results derived from such entries are labelled as engineer-entered manufacturer data and remain the responsibility of the engineer who recorded them.
Saved device profiles and library entries are stored for the convenience of your workspace and are visible to its members. It is the user's responsibility to keep them current, to confirm each entry against the latest manufacturer publication before relying on it, and to ensure that recording and sharing the data within their workspace is permitted by the publisher's terms. You are responsible for the content you enter and warrant that you are entitled to record it.
The workspace device library holds make, model, rating, curve, breaking capacity and trip settings entered by your own team. designR treats these records as user data: they are not a manufacturer catalogue, are not verified against any published catalogue, and may be incomplete or out of date. Where a library device is attached to a board incomer or circuit, its details are reproduced on schedules, packs, draft certificates and discrimination studies exactly as entered, and the engineer remains responsible for confirming that the device specified is suitable and correctly described for the installation.
Trials, workspaces and subscriptions
A workspace trial runs for 7 days and is limited to one trial per company network. Free use outside a trial is limited to the voltage drop calculator and a small number of cable sizing calculations. Subscriptions, renewals and payment arrangements are handled directly with designR outside the application; no card details are taken in the app.
Workspace admins control membership and can remove users. Removing a user ends their access to that workspace's project data.
